Your ads are getting clicks. The dashboard looks busy. But the phone isn’t ringing. When Facebook ads aren’t converting, the problem is rarely just the ad. It’s usually something that happens after the click. If your Facebook ads are not converting, these are the fixes to check first.
Here are the seven leaks we find most often when we audit a local business ad account.
1. The ad sends people to your homepage
Your homepage tries to talk to everyone. Someone who clicked an ad about a $79 AC tune-up wants to see that offer, a price and a button. Not your company history. Send ad traffic to a page built for that one offer. We cover this in Landing Page vs Homepage.
2. The page is slow on mobile
Most Facebook and Instagram clicks come from phones. If your page takes more than a few seconds to load, many people leave before it appears. Test your page with Google’s free PageSpeed Insights tool and fix the biggest issues first, usually oversized images.

3. The ad and the page don’t match
The ad says “Free estimate this week.” The page says “Welcome to Smith Roofing, serving the community since 1998.” That gap makes people wonder if they clicked the wrong thing. Use the same headline, offer and images on both. See the full list of landing page elements that turn clicks into booked calls.
4. The form asks for too much
Every extra field costs you leads. For a first contact, name, phone and one qualifying question is usually enough. Save the rest for the call.
5. Nobody calls back fast enough
This one hurts the most because the ad did its job. A lead that waits hours for a reply has often already booked someone else. Set up an instant text reply and call within five minutes during business hours. More on this in Speed to Lead.
6. You’re optimizing for the wrong goal
If your campaign is set to “Traffic,” Meta will find people who like to click. Not people who like to book. Use the Leads objective, or Sales with your Pixel tracking real form submissions, so Meta learns who actually converts.
7. Your tracking is broken
Sometimes the leads are coming in, but nobody knows they came from ads. Check that your Meta Pixel fires on the thank-you page and that your form notifications go to someone who reads them. Use Meta’s Events Manager to confirm conversions are being recorded.
A quick self-audit
- Click your own ad on your phone. Does the page load fast?
- Does the page repeat the ad’s offer in the headline?
- Can you submit the form in under 30 seconds?
- Did you get a reply within five minutes?
- Did the conversion show up in Events Manager?
If you answered no to any of these, start there before you touch the ad. If everything checks out, it may be a budget question.
FAQ
It varies a lot by industry and offer. Rather than chase a benchmark, track your own cost per booked job and improve it month over month.
Lead forms get more leads at a lower cost, but quality can be lower. Landing pages often bring fewer, better leads. Test both.
Install the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension, visit your site, and check Events Manager for recent activity.
The bottom line: When Facebook ads are not converting, the problem is usually the offer, the page or the follow-up, not the platform.
