Telehealth Marketing: How to Scale Patient Acquisition Without Blowing Up CPL

October 12, 2026 · 3 min read

Doctor consulting a patient over a telehealth video call

Telehealth brands can reach patients anywhere, which sounds like an advantage until you try to scale. Ad costs rise, creative fatigues, platforms flag health claims, and sign-ups drop off before the first visit. Here’s the telehealth marketing approach we use to grow patient volume while keeping cost per lead under control.

Start with compliance, not creative

Know the platform rules before you write a single ad

Meta and Google both restrict health advertising. Ads can’t imply you know someone’s medical condition, and some categories need certification (LegitScript, for example, for certain telehealth and pharmacy services). Write your creative and landing pages to pass review the first time. Rejections and account restrictions cost more than any bad ad.

Keep protected health information out of ad platforms

Tracking pixels on intake forms can send sensitive information to ad platforms. Work with your compliance team to limit what gets tracked, use privacy-safe conversion tracking, and keep patient data in compliant tools.

Build a channel mix that scales

Meta for demand, search for intent

Meta ads are where most telehealth brands find volume: trust-first video, patient and caregiver stories (within policy), and clear explanations of how the service works. Google and Bing capture people already searching for your condition or service. Bing is often overlooked and can deliver cheaper leads, especially with older audiences.

Scale budgets in steps

Doubling budget overnight usually doubles cost per lead. Increase spend in steady steps, watch CPL at each stage, and add new creative before performance drops, not after.

Refresh creative constantly

Creative fatigue is the main reason CPL climbs as you scale. Test new hooks, formats and spokespeople every week, and retire ads as soon as frequency climbs and results slip.

Fix the funnel after the click

Make eligibility and pricing obvious

Patients leave when they can’t tell if they qualify or what it costs. Quiz funnels that check eligibility, explain insurance or cash pricing, and move straight into intake convert much better than a long homepage. See our landing page best practices.

Use lifecycle marketing to close the gap

Many sign-ups never make it to the first visit. Email and SMS sequences that remind, reassure and help with insurance verification recover a large share of them. After the first visit, retention and reactivation sequences protect lifetime value.

What this looks like in practice

For one telehealth brand serving elderly patients and their caregivers, we ran HIPAA-compliant Facebook, Google and Bing campaigns with trust-first creative and tight lifecycle marketing. The result: 4,411 leads at a $22 cost per lead, with CPL down 38% while monthly spend scaled from $5k to $24k. Read the case study.
