Most clinics have more potential patients nearby than they realize. The problem is usually visibility and follow-up, not demand. Here’s how to get more patients for your medical practice, in the order we’d tackle it.
1. Win the map pack
When someone searches “urgent care near me” or “family doctor [city],” Google shows the map pack first. A complete, accurate Google Business Profile is the foundation: correct categories, hours (including holiday hours), services, insurance information, photos and regular posts. For multi-location clinics, every location needs its own optimized profile. Our Google Business Profile optimization guide covers the details.
2. Make reviews a routine
Patients choose providers based on reviews more than almost anything else. Send a review request after each visit, and respond professionally to every review without confirming that the reviewer is a patient or sharing any health details. Here’s how to respond to negative reviews.
3. Give each service its own page
A single “Services” page can’t rank for physicals, women’s health, sports medicine and urgent care all at once. Separate pages for your key services rank better and let you answer the questions patients actually ask: Do you take my insurance? Can I book online? How soon can I be seen?
4. Advertise the services with open capacity
Google Ads let you put budget exactly where you have open appointments. Build campaigns by service line and location, schedule ads for the hours you can take patients, and send each one to its matching service page. Facebook and Instagram ads work well for preventive and seasonal services, like flu shots and back-to-school physicals, as long as the copy follows Meta’s health advertising policies.
5. Fix the front desk bottleneck
Calls that go to voicemail during busy hours and web inquiries that wait until the end of the day both send patients elsewhere. Missed-call text-back, online booking and same-day follow-up on web forms make a big difference. An AI receptionist can also answer common questions and book appointments after hours.
6. Keep patients coming back
Appointment reminders reduce no-shows. Recall reminders for annual physicals, screenings and chronic care visits fill the schedule with patients you already have.
7. Protect patient privacy in your marketing
Keep protected health information out of ad platforms, be careful with tracking pixels on forms and patient portals, and use compliant tools for patient communication. Your compliance team should sign off on your setup.
8. Track booked appointments, not clicks
Use call tracking and form tracking so you can see which channels, services and locations produce booked appointments. Then shift budget toward what works.
The bottom line: To get more patients for your medical practice, make it easy to find you, trust you and book.
