Every HVAC company knows the cycle. The first heat wave or cold snap hits and the phones don’t stop. Then spring and fall arrive, and the schedule goes quiet. Good HVAC marketing isn’t just about getting more calls. It’s about smoothing out those peaks and valleys so your techs stay busy all year.
Here’s the plan we use.
Show up when it breaks
When a furnace dies at 9 p.m., homeowners grab their phone and search. You need to be in the top few results, right then.
- Google Local Services Ads: The “Google Guaranteed” ads at the very top. You pay per lead, not per click, and they work well for urgent repair calls. Our comparison of Local Services Ads vs Search Ads explains when to use each.
- Google Search Ads: Target high-intent searches like “AC repair near me” or “furnace not working.” Send clicks to a page about that exact service, not your homepage.
- Google Business Profile: Your map listing is often the first thing people see. Keep it complete and active. Use our Google Business Profile optimization checklist.
Win the call with reviews
When someone is comparing three HVAC companies on the map, reviews usually decide who gets the call. Ask every customer after every job, make it one click with a text link and reply to every review. A steady flow of recent reviews beats a big pile of old ones. Here’s how to get more Google reviews.

Answer fast, every time
In HVAC, the first company to answer usually gets the job. A missed call during peak season goes straight to a competitor. Make sure:
- Calls are answered live or by an answering service after hours
- Web leads get an instant text reply and a call within minutes
- Your booking link is easy to find
If you can’t staff the phones 24/7, an AI receptionist or answering service can capture after-hours calls and book them. More in our post on speed to lead.
Fill the slow seasons on purpose
This is where most HVAC companies leave money on the table. Shoulder seasons are when you should be marketing harder, not less.
- Tune-up campaigns: Promote AC tune-ups in early spring and furnace tune-ups in early fall. Email and text past customers first. They’re your cheapest bookings.
- Maintenance plans: A membership with two visits a year gives you guaranteed work in slow months and loyal customers who call you first when something breaks.
- Replacement offers: Shoulder seasons are a good time to promote system replacements, financing and efficiency upgrades, when homeowners aren’t in emergency mode.
- Facebook ads to homeowners: Run seasonal offers to homeowners in your service area. Social ads are better for planned work than emergencies.
Build trust with real content
Post photos of your team, trucks and finished installs on your Google profile and social media. Short videos answering common questions, like “how often should I change my filter?”, help homeowners trust you before they ever call.
Track cost per booked job
Don’t just count leads. Track which channel each booked job came from and what it cost. You might find that Local Services Ads bring cheaper repair calls while Search Ads bring more replacement jobs, which are worth far more. Put your money where the profit is.
A simple yearly calendar
| Months | Focus |
|---|---|
| Jan to Feb | Heating repair ads, maintenance plan renewals |
| Mar to Apr | AC tune-up campaign to past customers, replacement offers |
| May to Aug | Cooling repair ads at full budget, review push |
| Sep to Oct | Furnace tune-up campaign, maintenance plan sign-ups |
| Nov to Dec | Heating repair ads, year-end financing offers |
FAQ
Many set aside a percentage of revenue, but it’s smarter to work back from your target cost per booked job and how many jobs you want. Start there and adjust by season.
For emergency repairs, Google Local Services Ads and Search Ads. For maintenance and replacements, your existing customer list and seasonal campaigns.
It helps build trust and stay top of mind, but it rarely drives emergency calls. Prioritize Google first.
